At what resolution should I save my photos and graphics?

Resolution should be set to 300 dpi. Pictures and graphics pulled from the internet are often low resolution, typically 72 dpi or 96 dpi. Avoid these graphics, as they will appear pixilated and blocky when printed. Also note that you should save all photos in CMYK mode, not RGB mode when possible. Do I need to see a printed proof for my job?

It depends. If color matching or exact size are important, it's not a bad idea to get a hard copy proof. Otherwise, a digital or soft copy proof is often sufficient. Seeing a proof in general is always recommended, even if you submit "print ready" artwork. It's just a double check to make sure that all the i's are dotted and t's are crossed.
